Joe and Mary lived in Locust Gap Town, Mt Cararmel Township. in the 1930 Census they are living with their Brother in law Frank 
Joe is 29, Mary is 23, Robert is 3 and 11/12 months old and Frank Mahoney is 15.

As I understand it Edward's son Joseph was shot to death by his brother-in-law and brought to trial for it and exonerated. I believe the Carey side never forgave him.

Not much is known on what brother-in-law or what happen. The Carey's  did not talk about Joe's Death.

This was a sad situation that Mary was left with two children and one that was handicapped.
