James and Joan married at Niagria Falls...no record of the marriage has been found at this time. James and Joan divorced. Joan had to leave the area to find a job, and went to Philia, to support her sons and left James with his grandparents who raised him, for her, James was a small child at this time and Girardville was a wonderful place to raise the child with numerous family living and helping in the area.

Joan raised the boys herself and ended up dying young of stomach Cancer.

It has been said by family, she had a very hard life raising her children on her own.

James supposely married several times after divorcing Joan.
