Daniel Engle was born in 1809 in Montgomery county, and when seventeen years of age came to Reading, where he learned the coopering business, and for many years manufactured cedar hol low ware, becoming very successful. He retired several years prior to his death, which occurred July 2, 1894, and his wife passed away in 1887, aged seventy-six years. Eleven children were born to this couple, seven of which reached maturity: Anetta m. Daniel Fisher, of Philadelphia; Daniel is deceased; William H.; George is assistant superintendent of the Merrick Iro n Company, of Philadelphia; Rosie m. Milton Palmer, of Reading, Pa.; Mary is deceased; and Richard is employed by his brother, William. In religious belief Mr. and Mrs. Engle were Luther ans. In political belief he was first a Whig, and later became a Republican.

Daniel Engle, born 1 JAN, 1809 in Montgomery Co. was married 10 FEB. 1833 in Trinity Evangeli cal Lutheran church in Reading, PA. to Mary Ann Kreisher, daughter of George Kreisher and Eli zabeth Bitting, born 11 OCT, 1811. She died 31 MAR 1887. Daniel came to Reading, PA. aged 1 7 years where he learned the coopering business and for many years manufactured cedar hollow ware. His shop was listed in Reading in 1847. He retired several years before his death o n 2 July 1894.
