Deane

In Ireland Deane appears as O’Deane as well as Deane in the Fiants of Co. Kilkenny and Tipperary, so it is probable that the Deanes of that area were of dual origin i.e. de Denne and Ó Deagháin. This surname is derived from the Irish word for a dean. According to Woulfe, families bearing the surname Deane seem to have been originally O’Donnells and O’Gallaghers.
Some Connacht Deanes were one of the ‘Tribes of Galway’ originally le den and said to be descendant of William Allen or Den who came from Bristol,England in the reign of Henry VI. Ever since there have been Deanes in Galway and Mayo
.
Development and History:-- In the 17th century Deane was numerous in Co. Kilkenny but it is rarely to be found there nowadays.

Mengel

  1. German: occupational name for a market trader or stallholder, from Middle High German menglære, a variant of mengære   See below
This surname is also established in Poland.
  2. Dutch: from a pet form of the personal name Meinger, derived from a Germanic personal name composed of the elements magin ‘strength’ + gar , ger ‘spear’; or a pet form of the personal name Mangold.
  3. Dutch: possibly an occupational nickname, from Middle Dutch mengel, mingel, a liquid measure equal to 2 pints.

Thiis name is a variation of the name Menger

  1. occupational name for a market trader, Middle High Germanmengære, mangære (from Late Latin mango ‘salesman’, with the addition of the Germanic agent suffix).
  2. from the Germanic personal name Meginger, composed of magin ‘might’, ‘force’ + gar , ger ‘spear’

Riegel            translates as Latchplate

Latch plate can be origin name to the places of the same name in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Saxonia, Poland, Schlesien, or in addition, a dwelling name by a "Riegel" (shut-off bar at a road, o. ae.) "R wascharacterizediegel" can however also as steep slope or small hill be interpreted.

A second derivative of the name Riegel results from sound shift from the name Riehl/Ruehl/Ruell. How I could prove on the basis old church books, the family Ruell from Piesport/Mosel was written to Riehell/ latch plate there after its removal into the Pfalz, since in the Pfaelzer dialect this came the moselfraenkischen discussion of Ruehl next.
