Catherine M. Carey, 91, of 301 W. Main St., Girardville, died Friday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center. Born in Girardville, she was a daughter of the late Edward L. and Theresa Halbe McDonald. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Girardville, and Kutztown University. She had been a teacher in the North Schuylkill School District. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Girardville, Girardville Area Senior Citizens and Pennsylvania Teachers Association, and a charter member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court of St. Cecilia, Girardville. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Sr., in 1956; two sons, James, in 1940, and Robert W., in 1990; a brother, James McDonald, in 1976; a sister, Elizabeth Dougherty, in 1985. Surviving are two sons, James R. Jr., Kennewick, Wash., and Leo J., Glenn Dale, Md.; a daughter, Mary Catherine Dwyer, Pottsville; a brother, William McDonald, Maryland; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from Robert M. McDonald Funeral Home, Girardville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church by the Rev. Gregory Karpyn. Interment will be in Annunciation Cemetery, Shenandoah.
