| Died July 16, 2009 William J. "Bill" Couch, 82, of Tamaqua, passed into eternal life on Thursday at Hometown Nursing & Rehab. Center. He was the husband of Nancy Dampman Couch for 46 years. Born in Ashland, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Connor Couch. Bill proudly served his country in the Navy from 1943-1946 on the destroyer escort USS Spangler. He worked for Atlas Powder for 38 years, retiring in 1989. He also served as an EMT for Cetronia Ambulance. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton. Bill was involved with many organizations in his lifetime. In more recent years, he enjoyed the company of his friends in his walking group and at the library. He became quite well known for his help in telling stories with Kathy Long. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, William, Tamaqua; a daughter, Lori, wife of Sam Post, Kansas, a brother, Thomas, Virginia; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews; and best friends, Kathy Long and her husband, Warren, Lehighton. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald; brothers, Charles, Ronald, Edward and Robert; and sisters, Elizabeth, Kay and Margaret. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 9, 2009, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Third and Iron streets, Lehighton, PA 18235, with the Rev.
