James S.
Mengel, 87, formerly of 236 S. Third Ave, West Reaing, of 447 Wroxham Drive,
Wyomissing Hills, was dead on arrival Monday at 5:27 a.m. in Reading Hospital.
His wife, E. Grace ( Huber ) Mengel, died July 2, 1987.
Born in Bern Township, he was a son of the late Samuel and
Clara ( Merkel ) Mengel.
Mengel was the owner of the former Octagon Bar, Reading,
for11years, retiring in 1979. He then was employed as a technician by Teltron, Inc,
Birdsboro, before, retiring.
He was a secretary of the Tretail Liquors Dealers of Berks County
from 1946 to 1952.
Surviving are a daughter, Sheryrn A. ,wife of Robert Boyer, with
whom he last resided: two sons, L. James , Lewes, Del and Arthur H., Crestwood: a sister, Mabel F. ,
widow of Arthur
Anspach, Wyomissing Hills: and a stepsister Earrletta, wife of Edward Weaver,
Greenfields.
There are also 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
