| Services for John A. Smith, 81, of
Ephrata, formerly of Mahanoy Plane and Ridley Park, who died Sunday at Hospice of
Lancaster, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from William F. McDonald Jr. Funeral Home,
Girardville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman
Catholic Church, Girardville, by the Rev. Gregory Karpyn. Interment will be in Ss. Peter
and Paul Cemetery, Springfield. Born in Mahanoy Plane, he was a son of the late Daniel and Mary Carey Smith. He attended Mahanoy Plane schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Madelyn Church, Ridley Park, and American Legion Post, Mahanoy Plane. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Norita Stapleton, in 1991; four brothers, Daniel, Jones, Joseph and William; two sisters, Maj. Anna E. Smith and Frances Green. Surviving are a daughter, Anne Hundley, Atglen; two brothers, Robert, Mahanoy Plane, and Michael, Ashland; nieces and nephews. . |
