| Services for Michael P. Smith Sr., 83,
of 1731 Centre St., Ashland, who died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center,
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from William F. McDonald Jr. Funeral Home,
Girardville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman
Catholic Church, Ashland. Interment will be in Our Lady of Siluva Cemetery, Frackville. Born in Mahanoy Plane, he was a son of the late Daniel and Mary Carey Smith. He was a 1938 graduate of Gilberton High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a truck driver for McCormick Trucking, Branch Motor Express and Schoeneman Corp. He was a bus driver for North Schuylkill School District. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Teamsters Union, American Legion, VFW and Elks Lodge, all in Ashland, Disabled War Veterans, Shenandoah, and was past president of Ashland Area Midget Football Association. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna E. Smith and Frances Green; five brothers, Daniel, Jonas, Joseph, John and William. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Martha Neverosky; three sons, Michael P. Jr., Palmyra, and Mark and Victor, both of Pottsville; two daughters, Monica Meyer, at home, and Janice Lesche, Palmyra; a brother, Robert, Mahanoy Plane; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. |
